How Stream Built 4K 60FPS Livestreaming (Stream)
Stream went up to 4K@60fps over WebRTC and published the numbers - not something we see every day. They picked H.264 for ingress knowing it costs them bitrate, because a hardware decoder is what you’ll need at such resolutions and frame rates. Then they used VMAF for the quality measurements. The end result? Serving streams not at 4K@60fps to all, but rather fitting the stream’s quality to the user’s device and network.
